NHL: The Florida Panthers signed star center and captain Aleksander Barkov to an eight-year, $80 million extension, per Elliotte Friedman. The contract will be tied for the 10th-richest in the league by total value.

NFL: Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said that quarterback Russell Wilson “badly sprained” his finger during Seattle’s 26-17 loss to the Rams. No timetable has been set for his return. 

NBA: Former NBA guard J.R. Smith will make his collegiate golfing debut at a tournament next week, North Carolina A&T announced. Smith joined the university’s golf team as a freshman walk-on after enrolling this summer.
