On the women’s side, Sloane Stephens upset two-time champion and 10th-seed Petra Kvitova, while second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka, (11) Garbine Muguruza, and (23) Madison Keys each advanced.

NBA: Former Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups was named head coach of the Trail Blazers.

MLB: Mariners pitcher Hector Santiago became the first pitcher ejected from a game this season for using a foreign substance. Santiago, who said, “All I used was rosin,” was tossed in the fifth inning of Seattle’s game against the White Sox. Also: Shohei Ohtani had three hits, including his 25th home run of the season, to lead the Angels over the Rays.

Euro 2020: The Czech Republic upset The Netherlands in Round of 16 play, while Belgium beat Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal and will play Italy in the quarters.
