The Draft

Making Headlines

NHL: Auston Matthews scored his 40th goal of the season to lift the Maple Leafs to a 5-2 victory over the Canadiens. Matthews became the third player in franchise history to reach 40 in fewer than 50 games.

NCAAM: Hartford, which made its first NCAA Tournament appearance in March, voted to drop to Div. III status.

Tennis: 6-seed Alexander Zverev defeated 2-seed Rafael Nadal 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open.

Tonight’s Action

Rockies at Cardinals, 8:15 p.m. ET

Odds: Cardinals -215, Rockies +180 || O/U 7

Pick: Lefthander Austin Gomber (2-3, 5.90 ERA) of the Rockies is set to face former St. Louis teammate Jack Flaherty. The righthander is 5-0 with a 3.41 ERA.

Sports Section likes the Cardinals on the moneyline, and will parlay that with the under to get the best value.

Who ya got? Reply to this newsletter with your prediction of the Cardinals-Rockies winner, the final score, and the combined strikeouts of Flaherty and Gomber. Nail it, and you get a mention in the next edition of Sports Section. Don’t forget to include your Twitter handle.

Shoutout: Yesterday, we asked subscribers to predict the winner of Clippers-Lakers, the final score, and the game’s leading scorer. The Clippers rolled 118-94 despite Kyle Kuzma’s game-high 25 for the Lakers.

A slew of subscribers predicted the Clippers to win, though no one had Kuzma as the leading scorer (no surprise there). Closest to the final score was Jason P. Dumont (@jasondumont). Way to go, Jason!

Keep the picks coming, everyone!
