College football: Coach Nick Saban announced that sophomore Bryce Young will be top-ranked Alabama’s starting quarterback. The Crimson Tide open their season against Miami on Saturday in Atlanta.

MLB: The Rays defeated the Orioles 12-8, becoming the third team in MLB’s divisional era to win 18 games against a single opponent. Tampa rookie Wander Franco extended his on-base streak to 29 games.

Tokyo Paralympic Games: China leads the medal count with 199 (54 gold, 35 silver, 30 bronze), followed by Great Britain’s 68 (26, 20, 22) and RPC’s 61 (19, 11, 31). The U.S. is fifth with 18 gold, 19 silver, and 12 bronze.
