NHL: Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will miss the start of the season following wrist surgery. The two-time Hart Trophy winner is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks.
NFL: On Wednesday, Jimmy Garoppolo seemed to announce himself as the 49ers’ Week 1 starter: “It’s official, I guess.” Head coach Kyle Shanahan hasn’t confirmed.
